The big announcement from @o2 this afternoon is that from 1st August all o2 customers will be able to receive Twitter messages via SMS.
o2 joins Vodafone, who were the first to enable Twitter updates back in March. This comes after Twitter disabled the feature last year, as an attempt to arrange deals with Networks.
Updates will be sent to your phone via text message for free, but o2 does request you keep the updates below 600, as part of their ‘Fair Use Policy’. Any replies/dms/messages sent to Twitter via SMS will be counted as part of your Text Bundle.
Great move from o2. We think the SMS service on Twitter will pick up a bit following this, at least until there are more push-supported Twitter applications for the iPhone.
