It looks like Intel’s global share of the CPU market is on the rise. According to iSuppli, a market researcher, Intel’s control of the CPU market during Q2 of 2009 has reached a four-year high. “Intel benefited as the global PC market took a first small step toward recovery in the second quarter, with global shipments rising by 1 percent from the first quarter” – Matthew Wilkins, iSuppli analyst.

AMD, on the other hand, did not benefit from this rise in PC sales, making Intel’s market share lead even larger. This is certainly bad news for AMD, although it still controls a large part of the CPU market. At this point, Intel is dominating with 80.6 percent, reinforcing its position of worldwide leader of the CPU market. Their market shares grew all across the board, from desktops to notebooks.

However, although the market share increases, the state of the global economy hurt CPU sales. Having a lot of good signs, Intel proceeded with the launch of Nehalem, a CPU for high-end personal computers and servers. Nehalem CPUs for four-socket servers are in development and will be released soon, according to Intel. It looks like Intel really wants to acquire all the CPU market.
