It seems that the Chinese Government has finally started taking action on Google’s allegations over suspected Chinese involvement in the recent cyber attacks code named ‘Operation Aurora’. Chinese Police have shut down the country’s biggest hacker training site – Black Hawk Safety Net in Central China’s Hubei province. Three people have been arrested in this regard and sent to judicial custody.
Black Hawk Safety Net had more than 12,000 VIP members and nearly 170,000 free members. The site amassed more than 7 million yuan membership fee since its inception in 2005. The site’s modus operandi was to teach members on hacking techniques using lessons, online forums and Trojan software. As per Chinese Police, more than 50 officers are investigating this case and the equipment seized from company’s office includes 5 computers, 9 web servers and a car.
While this is a welcome move, a lot more needs to be done to ensure that attacks such as ‘Operation Aurora’ do not happen again.
Thumbs up to Chinese Police for catching the Black Hawk in their ‘Safety Net’!
