While all the media attention has been focused on the launch of Apple Tablet – The iPad, the company has silently chosen to remove the restriction of making Video VoIP calls over 3G networks on the iPhone. Apple has also changed the iPhone SDK to reflect that this restriction has been removed.

It’s surely a welcome move for iPhone users as well as the iPhone Developer Community.  In just a couple of days following the Apple announcement, iCall and Fring declared their iPhone Video VoIP Calling App to be available for download. While the Fring Video VoIP call on the iPhone has some audio quality issues, it’s a matter of time before these are addressed.

Clearly, this is a massive move by Apple in the right direction and I’m glad that Apple has realized that removing such restrictions will further strengthen iPhone’s position as the leading smartphone in the market.
