The twitter bug just refuses to die down. The retweet.com domain which put itself up for sale last month has fetched a massive price of $250,000 in an online auction on Flippa. The sale was hotly contested with as many as 45 bids being placed for retweet.com and the eventual winner outscoring others by shelling out $48,000 more than any other bidder.
Retweet.com is a twitter aggregator like TweetMeme and it helps users tweet from third party websites. There’s no official word on the buyer who won the retweet.com bid though there are speculations that it might be a leading social news site which had recently expressed interest in the domain.
The popularity of Twitter has surpassed expectations of one and all and a twitter aggregator website being sold for a quarter million dollars is a testimony to the mad craze around twitter. In the past year, retweet.com has drawn far lesser traffic as compared to its biggest competitor – TweetMeme but it has still managed to bag a whopping sale deal.
Happy tweeting (rather I should say Happy retweeting)!
