The Digital Economy Bill which was first announced in 2009 and reportedly is designed to curtail copyright infringement by users sharing files and media online has been criticized and condemned severely by many people, as its complicated and extremely stringent laws including the one which allows Internet Service Providers to give customer information to copyright holders who could sue customers that are found sharing files.
The fears doesn’t see to be unfounded, the government has amended the Digital Economy Bill to give High court judges the power to block any website with a “substantial” amount of copyright infringing content, YouTube which is ranked #3 on Alexa’s top sites of the world and is the most popular online video site automatically falls under this criteria, most of the content on YouTube is user uploaded and according to Google “ every minute, 20 hours of video are uploaded “ and apparently it will be very difficult to moderate such content even If someone tried.
