Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg had earlier this week promised simplifying privacy controls over the building resentment over its privacy policies, true to his words Facebook introduced a new set of privacy controls yesterday in an attempt to quell criticism that it was negligent about protecting users information.
“We believe in privacy. We believe in giving people control,” said Zuckerberg at a press conference to announce the changes. “But more and more, people want to share information. As long as they have good control over that, I think that’s where the world is going” he added.
Facebook says that its new privacy settings will make it much easier for users to control information, with pages of options coming down to eight from thirteen and only fifteen options are now needed to make all your information private, where as earlier it was fifty. It’s also made many of the settings visible at a glance. The new privacy settings page gives the main options in a chart form, and makes it possible to shift eighteen settings with one click on a preset.
