Google’s annual developer conference which started on Wednesday at Moscone West, San Francisco bought news of an all new web apps store for its Chrome web browser. The Chrome Web Store is slated to debut later this year.
Chrome’s online apps store will offer different apps for the web browser. Currently, there are no apps on the official website but just a brief FAQ on what’s the App Store is about. Web apps in the online store would be regular apps built with standard web technologies with an ability to run the same web applications in other browsers that support these technologies, that means, if there is a Facebook app for Chrome, and if Mozilla Firefox supports it then you may be able to use the same app in both browsers.
This is the second development from Google this week about online app store for its products, the first was the face lift given to Android store, Google’s focus on online app stores makes sense as it could boost its revenues which predominantly come from its advertisement revenues. With similar applications available for Android smartphones and Chrome browser, a very fine line would remain between the Android OS and Chrome OS platforms. It is also likely that we’ll have cross over applications.
