The update which all ya iPhone 4 customers and fans have been waiting for is here. The 4.1 update of the iPhone’s iOS 4 is now available in a beta release for the developers who have signed up for Apple’s iPhone Developers Program. Programmers will be able to apply the update to the iPhone 4, 3G, 3GS and 2nd generation iPod Touch models however, as far as we can tell, there’s no iPad support yet.
Apple, has promised, to change the algorithm for calculating signal strength,with the modem software going from 01.59.00 to 02.07.01. Initial reports from those who have updated show that the signal bars are, in fact, larger in the new OS, and users are seeing fewer bars on iPhone 4.1 running iOS 4.1 device when compared to a iPhone 4 running iOS 4, the update also adds more robust AVRCP Bluetooth controls for music playback, letting you skip tracks and play and pause with a connected device, as well as adding the option to shut off FaceTime and multiplayer games in the Game Center.
There ends the good news, the other significant issue of ‘death grip’ has not been solved, if you touch the antenna during a call, that can be enough to kill your connection, some videos of the “death grip” in action have also surfaced, and it’s just as precarious as before.
Apple has also announced it will be holding a press conference on Friday July 16th to discuss the iPhone 4, though in what context we don’t currently know.
