During the press conference last week, when Steve Jobs showed how the BlackBerry Bold 9700, HTC Droid Eris and Samsung Omnia II suffered from signal loss while held in a certain way, even though he had omitted mentioning Nokia, Nokia claimed it always prioritizes antenna performance over physical design. Apple has now rectified its mistake, now Apple’s Smartphone Antenna Performance page has added a video which shows that Nokia N97 Mini, when held a certain way, also shows significant signal loss.
Holding Nokia N97 Mini phone in a weak signal area, Apple claims, and it can drop from 7 to 2 bars.
“In our tests, the Nokia N97 mini dropped from 7 bars to 2 bars when held in a way that attenuated the signal,” Apple wrote. What the video clip didn’t show was whether calls or data were dropped with only two signal bars left, which is a pretty important consideration especially since Nokia said earlier that it “prioritize(s) antenna performance over physical design if they are ever in conflict”.
