Apple’s alleged 7 inch variant of iPad tablet, the so called “iPad mini” is now expected to be unveiled at an event on October 23 according to a report by  AllThingsD who quotes “people familiar with Apple’s plans.”

If the report turns out to be true, Apple could steal some of the limelight from Microsoft, which is debuting its Surface tablet on October 26.

All Things D believes the Tuesday date is out of character for Apple. It also takes a guess at the venue, the event might be held at Apple’s Town Hall in Cupertino.

Earlier the release was widely rumored to be revealed Oct. 17, with invitations supposed to be sent on Oct. 10.
