The Blue Yeti brand has become synonymous with professional podcasting equipment, offering studio-quality recording gear, at reasonable prices. The Blue Yeti Pro, being their flagship microphone, displays everything the brand has come to stand for, in spades. The Yeti Pro is the world’s first high-resolution USB/XLR microphone capable of 24 bit/192 kHz digital recording. That’s certainly something to brag about.
It’s a heavy duty micrphone for sure, yet it’s still very portable in size, the mic will fold down into the base-stand and pack away very easily. The base itself is sturdy, ensuring the mic stays in place. On the bottom of the mic are several input/output ports, including Mini USB, Stereo XLR (both cables included) and a headphone jack for if you want to hear yourself live, with zero latency, I might add.
Setup on a Mac is easy, just plug-and-play with the USB port. However, Windows users will have to install some drivers. We recommend a Stereo XLR setup, with an external audio interface (a la M-Audio’s Fast Track) for the best sound quality.
The controls on the mic itself are well designed, making for simple use: Headphone volume, gain, mute and the 4 pattern audio settings; stereo, cardioid, omnidirectional and bidirectional. We found using the cardioid pattern was best for recording podcasts, although pattern instructions are provided. A pop shield isn’t really necessary with this mic, either. The sound quality remains crips and pop-free.
