Microsoft unveiled Xbox One, its next-generation home game console which aspires to go beyond gaming and become the focus of a consumer’s living room entertainment experience. Microsoft showed off the console along with a new gamepad controller as well as a new Kinect motion camera.
Xbox One runs on an eight core processor based on AMD’s Jaguar. It comes with 8GB of DDR3 RAM, 500GB hard drive , USB 3.0 ports, and WiFi Direct. There will be no backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 as the console will be based on x86-style architecture. Kinect will be bundled with the console and contain 250,000-pixel infrared depth sensor as well as a regular 720p web cam.
“Xbox One is designed to deliver a whole new generation of blockbuster games, television and entertainment in a powerful, all-in-one device,” said Don Mattrick, president, Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. “Our unique, modern architecture brings simplicity to the living room and, for the first time ever, the ability to instantly switch across your games and entertainment.”
