Google has recently demonstrated a new prototype of Google Goggles which can translate text captured in photos. The concept uses Google’s machine translation and image recognition capabilities and combines their intelligence to interpret the text in images.
Google has a habit of pulling something extra ordinary out of its hat every once in a while. I remember when the Google Goggles made its debut – many people considered it a fad. Not only did Google Goggles become a reality but it is a testimony of technology can be pushed to the limits by one smart company.
The current translation is limited from German to English but Google is planning to add multi-lingual support soon. The translation is not yet available for public use and I expect that Google will launch it on a massive scale once it fully integrates Google Goggle with ‘Google Translate’ to tap the potential of translation to as many as 52 languages.
Google Goggles is a wonderful concept and I hope that it doesn’t get ‘Lost In Translation’!
