Google Buzz – A Nightmare for Parents?

Google has been publicly blasted by users as well as industry analysts for privacy invasion on Google Buzz. The results get even scarier if you are a parent who wants to control and monitor your child’s activity on social networks on the internet.

Any Gmail contacts of your kid become followers by default and that’s not a good thing to happen. The status updates for your kid may be posted as ‘public’ – thereby exposing them to strangers and potentially pedophiles on the internet. The status updates can lead to chats, personal information exchanges and there’s no limit to how bad it can get.

Though Google’s Gmail policy mentions that you should be at least 13 year old to have an account but there is no conscious effort on part of Google to educate people about this policy. It would be really cool to have a way to turn Google Buzz off or run it in ‘Parental Guidance’ mode, especially for kids.

After all, Buzz comes from a company which believes in ‘Do No Evil!’
