Move over Facebook’s complex privacy control and user-data sharing issues, Google has gone one-up on Facebook by scooping up sensitive data such as passwords when putting together its Street View service.
French National Commission on Computing and Liberty CNIL, has begun looking into the exact data that Google’s Street View cars captured, and have found that the “sensitive data” included email passwords were captured. Google admitted that Google Street View were sniffing data from WiFi networks.
“We have reached out to the data protection authorities in the relevant countries, and are working with them to answer any questions they have,” a Google spokesperson told BBC. “Our ultimate objective is to delete the data consistent with our legal obligations and in consultation with the appropriate authorities.”
