Tuesday was one of the most difficult days for the popular micro-blogging website Twitter, after a hacker gained access to their Google cloud-based Apps platform and managed to steal over 300 confidential documents and screenshots. These sensitive documents were sent to Techcrunch, where Michael Arrington decided to release some of them to the public.

But how was this possible? “About a month ago, an administrative employee here at Twitter was targeted and her personal email account was hacked. From the personal account, we believe the hacker was able to gain information which allowed access to this employee’s Google Apps account which contained Docs, Calendars and other Google Apps Twitter relies on for sharing notes, spreadsheets, ideas, financial details and more within the company.” – Twitter co-founder Biz Stone.

Some of the documents were about Facebook. It looks like Twitter considers Facebook direct competition and has a few plans of its own to increase its client base to one billion and the revenue per user to $1 per year. There were many other private plans. However, we will not post them. There are already rumors of Twitter talking to its lawyers about a lawsuit against Web sites and bloggers. Publishing stolen documents is not the best thing to do for a news company. However, we will see what Twitter has prepared for Techcrunch in just a few days.
