At a press event, co-hosted by AT&T Blackberry’s Canadian maker Research in Motion launched the eagerly awaited Blackberry OS 6 and unveiled its first BlackBerry with both a touchscreen and a physical slide-out QWERTY keyboard which comes pre-loaded with the new BlackBerry 6 operating system, the smartphone will be available in U.S. exclusively from AT&T ($199 with a two-year contract) from August 12, U.K. release details are yet to be shared.
Blackberry Torch 9800 comes with a 360×480 touch screen, a slide-out keyboard, and Bluetooth and WiFi B/G/N. The battery is said to allow nearly six hours of talk time or 30 hours of music. The camera is 5 megapixels with a flash. All of this is powered by a 624MHz processor with 512MB of main memory. There’s also 4GB of built-in storage, and a microSD slot that accepts cards of up to 32GB. The front face of the phone has four buttons familiar to BlackBerry users: Talk, Menu, Back and Power/End. These buttons flank the square optical touchpad, which can be used for navigation in addition to the touchscreen.
