Facebook has reportedly pulled the plug on using the ‘Facebook Connect’ on iTunes Ping by turning off Apple’s access to its Facebook Connect API, as an agreement between Apple and Facebook couldn’t be reached, prompting Facebook to cut off access. Apple subsequently removed the feature from its service.
Ideally, Facebook’s API is open to any application developer, however, in case of with high volume apps and hugely popular services requires a special agreement for connections and Facebook and Apple were not able to come to an agreement. In the past, the companies did work harmoniously together, ‘Share via Facebook’ option was first introduced in iTunes 9 and the App Store Facebook Page.
