Microsoft has on Monday launched Skype video calling features for Outlook.com, which allows users to make video calls directly from their Browsers. Users here in the UK will be the first to recieve the feature. The roll out will start in the UK today, followed by US and Germany availability in the “coming weeks,” and worldwide support by the summer.
“With the preview version of Skype for Outlook.com you can enjoy Skype video and audio calls right from your inbox — less typing, more talking! For those of you that aren’t familiar, Outlook.com is a free personal email service from Microsoft. In the first six months after launch, Outlook.com attracted 60 million new users, making it the fastest-growing email service in history.” detailed a Skype Blog Post.
Skype for Outlook.com is in a preview version that will be updated based on initial feedback. The integration is possible thanks to a browser plugin, currently available for Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox, with users being asked to connect Skype to Outlook.com using their Microsoft accounts.
