The verdict is out – google (mind the lower case), my personal choice for company of the decade has been named as ‘Word of the Decade’ by the American Dialect Society.
The lower case implies that the word means an internet search and does not refer to the name of the company. Tweet received the ‘Word of the Year’ award for 2009 but was no match up to Google in the Word of the Decade category. The closest technical competitor for Word of the Decade was the word ‘blog’ while other non-techie words like ‘9/11’, ‘green’ and ‘war on terror’ made the other finalists.
Watch out for next decades word: ‘Sporkings’ oooh yes!
