140conf is fast approaching. In less than two weeks time, London‘s o2 Indigo will be hosting the biggest Twitter get-together in the UK.
The original scope of #140conf was to explore “the effects of twitter on: Celebrity, “The Media”, Advertising and (maybe) Politics.” Over time the scope expanded to look at the effects of twitter on topics ranging from public safety to public diplomacy.
The [...]

This year’s Affiliate Marketing Conference and Exhibition was so well organised and produced, if you didn’t attend you’ll have to take my word that a4uexpo 20009 was one of the best events I’ve ever attended.
Set in the ExCeL, which is a brilliant venue (FOWA was hosted here during 2007/8), the event covered several floors. There was the expo area, and 3 large conference rooms. [...]

The Sporkings team can often be found at events in and around London, where a lot of the technology events take place. But every now and then, something outside of our radar catches our attention.
On the 21st November 2009, something very cool is happening in Cambridge. ‘Cambridge Geek Day’. Organised by the very young, but very smart Jamie Rumbelow, this is to be a very developer oriented [...]

Anyone who uses a Twitter application on the iPhone has no doubt been “my app’s better than yours” debate at some point. I know I’ve been there a few times. There’s a whole bunch of them out there, and to be perfectly honest they all do pretty much the same thing, just in slightly different ways.
Well we think Tweetie 2 is about to change all that. We’ve been fortunate [...]

When TechCrunch team up with 2pears/Twisted Tree you know you’re going to be in for a day/night of entertainment – and that’s exactly what we received on Thursday 24th September at Café de Paris.

The idea was [...]

News just in; Apple have actually approved the Spotify app.

We’re left wondering if iTunes will replace 7digital as media download partners.
Watch this space for more info. We believe an official announcement will be made tomorrow.

Disqus is a third party commenting system, used on a lot of popular blogs including TechCrunch, ITProPortal and of course Sporkings!
The idea is that no matter what website you comment on, you get to use the same login details. This is an OpenID approach to commenting, that has been very successful. But with the launch of Echo last month, it seems Disqus felt the need to up their [...]

A lot of us own Netbooks these days, and if you’ve ever done any work at all on these beauties you’ll understand what I mean when I say they can very quickly run out of space.
Novatech have reduced the price of their Samsung 64GB Solid State Hard Drives. Bare in mind these are SATA-II so might not work on all computers – check your netbook/laptop manual or manufacturer’s website [...]

Canadian firm ‘i4i Ltd.’ won a case against Microsoft in the US District Court 60 days ago, claiming Microsoft knowingly use XML technology infringing a 1998 patent owned by i4i.
Today the US Federal Court ruled that Microsoft must stop selling any products using .XML, .DOCX or .DOCM. This news is huge, but should come as a relief to groups against proprietary [...]

We had the opportunity of playing around with Kohive, and I have to say personally I’m very disappointed.
I had this application 5 years ago, it was called Goowy. AOL bought them out and they seized to exist. But what Goowy did was try to create a ‘virtual desktop’ full of widgets and such. As far as I know, nobody wants to move their desktop into the browser, they simply want [...]
