Blackberry’s year end financial results have thrown a pleasant surprise, the Canadian company appears to slowly gaining ground. Blackberry announced US $94 million in profit and $1.2 billion in revenue.For the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2013 ending on March 2, BlackBerry reported revenue of $2.7 billion, down 36% when compared to the same time frame a year ago.

At the New York BlackBerry 10 Live event, Thorsten Heins announced the new BlackBerry OS and new BlackBerry 10 devices, the BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10.
BlackBerry Z10 comes with a 4.2-inch 1,280 x 768 display with a pixel density of 356 dpi — and measures in at 5.13 (130mm) x 2.6 (66mm) x 0.37 (9.3mm) inches, making it significantly bulkier than the iPhone 5.

Blackberry maker Research in Motion dumped their name and picked up the brand name which made took them to the pinnacle of mobile success, they’ve chosen to change their name and branding to reflect who they really are, they will be known simply as “BlackBerry” going forward.

Android and Apple smartphones wiped the floor with rivals and captured a whopping 92 per cent of global sales in the fourth quarter of last year according to the latest research from Strategy Analytics.

Samsung bought more mobile chips than any other company in 2012, according to new data from Gartner. Samsung and Apple ordered $45.3 billion worth of semiconductors in 2012 which according to Gartner is up $7.9 billion from 2012.
Samsung was 8% of the chip market last year, while Apple was 7.2% of the market. They were followed by Hewlett-Packard (4.7% of the market), Dell (2.9%) and Sony (2.7%). [...]

Out of 123.3 million people in the U.S. using smartphones in November 2012, 53.7% people used Android according to a study by ComScore, 26.9% of them are using Samsung devices. Apple’s iPhones accounted for 35% of all smartphone subscribers, with overall mobile share of 26.9%.
