Dropbox is buying the Mailbox mobile app and Gmail client for the iPhone. The details of the deals weren’t disclosed.
Mailbox would remain a separate app as the entire team joins Dropbox. Dropbox CEO Drew Houston told the WSJ that his company felt it “could help Mailbox reach a much different audience much faster.”

Dropbox today unveiled two new products. The first is Quick Start, which shows an instant preview of the file on Dropbox which saves the trouble of downloading the file it to know what it is. Also launched was a photos tab for the web to make it easy to view and share photos you’ve uploaded.

Dropbox has released a new open beta to preview and test upcoming software. The latest version of the beta is 2.2.2.8 and is available as a direct download from the Dropbox forums.

Dropbox reported on its blog on Friday the launch of new iOS app that introduces a redesigned, streamlined UI, a new Photos tab that allows you to scroll through a timeline of your automatically uploaded photos, and improvements to the photo-viewing experience.

Facebook is joining forces with Dropbox on a new integration that allows Facebook users to share content stored in their Dropbox accounts directly with contacts in Facebook Groups.
