At Google I/O, Google unveiled a major new unified messaging service for iOS and Android called Hangouts. Hangouts is a cross platform service that will replace Google Talk, Google+ Messenger and the Google+ video chat. Earlier it was rumored to be called Babel, but Google announced it as Hangouts.

Google has had Chat feature since the launch of Gmail, the newer services too got the chat feature limited to the application, for instance – If you are working on a Google Doc on your corporate GDrive account, your colleague will not be able to text chat with you from Gtalk/Gchat. This is repordely going to change.

Google’s GTalk is currently down. Users are not able to see contacts or send messages, in some cases contacts are visible, the messages won’t get sent. As is the norm now various users on Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites have reported this first.
