iOS 6.1 is now available as a free download from the iOS Store. According to the release notes, the update adds LTE support for additional carriers (36 for iPhone, 23 for iPad), the ability to purchase movie tickets through Siri (US only) and the feature for iTunes Match fans to download individual songs from iCloud.

Android and Apple smartphones wiped the floor with rivals and captured a whopping 92 per cent of global sales in the fourth quarter of last year according to the latest research from Strategy Analytics.

Apple presented its quarterly earnings report for Fiscal Year 1, 2013 and the company has reported a precedent $54.5 billion in revenue for the quarter ending December 29, 2012. As a result, Apple shares fell by as much as 12 percent on Thursday, staging their biggest percentage drop in over four years and slicing more than $50 billion from the company’s market value.

Samsung bought more mobile chips than any other company in 2012, according to new data from Gartner. Samsung and Apple ordered $45.3 billion worth of semiconductors in 2012 which according to Gartner is up $7.9 billion from 2012.
Samsung was 8% of the chip market last year, while Apple was 7.2% of the market. They were followed by Hewlett-Packard (4.7% of the market), Dell (2.9%) and Sony (2.7%). [...]

Apple’s iPhone 5 has been ranked the worst top smartphone at each of the three U.S. mobile phone carriers that sell the phone by a report published by Consumer Reports according to a report published by Business Insider.

Apple today announced that nearly 20 billions apps were downloaded in 2012 from its App Store, bringing the total number of App Store downloads to 40 billion.

Out of 123.3 million people in the U.S. using smartphones in November 2012, 53.7% people used Android according to a study by ComScore, 26.9% of them are using Samsung devices. Apple’s iPhones accounted for 35% of all smartphone subscribers, with overall mobile share of 26.9%.

Apple has few hours ago released iOS 6.0.2 for the iPhone 5 and iPad mini , which fixes a software bug which hampers the connections and speeds of the WiFi connection. Apple has already tried to fix this once before with iOS 6.0.1, but it seems that the problem has persisted.
