Android sales declined by 5% over last year, according to a report by Strategy Analysts, Google’s mobile OS’s market share dropped from 60.6 percent a year earlier to 56.3 percent and according to the report Android may be “approaching a peak” in its market share.

Samsung shipped 52.1 million smartphones, double the number of iPhones shipped by its leading rival Apple in the second quarter of 2012 according to estimates by Juniper Research. Samsung’s numbers were mainly due to its flagship phone Galaxy S3 which achieved sales of 10 million in June.

Apple posted its results for the last quarter, Apple made a net profit of $8.8bn in the three months ending in June, up 21% from a year earlier but lower than forecasts by financial analysts.
It is also the smallest increases in years for the April to June period. Apple will pay shareholders a dividend of $2.65 per share on 16 August.

If reports are to be believed, Apple’s next iPhone will drop the 30-pin wide dock connector used in its mobile devices in favour of a smaller 19-pin connector port to enable the earphone to move to bottom from the top.

Sparrow, the popular thrid-party email app for MAC OS and iOS plus a great Gmail solution for iPhone users has been acquired by Google. According to some reports, the price is said to be around US $25 million.

A recent Nielsen survey revealed that two-thirds of new mobile phones purchased in the second quarter of 2012 were smartphones. Nielsen also reported that just under 55% of all U.S. mobile subscribers owned smartphones.

Twitter has launched today new versions of Twitter for iPhone and Twitter for Android. These new apps contain several updates including a video feature, now you can click on a tweet with a video link on your iPhone or Android device, and have the video play directly in the tweet.

Apple’s bad luck in UK courts continue, after losing a patent case against HTC recently, Apple lost another patent skirmish, this time with Samsung. UK High Court Judge ruled that Samsung tablets don’t infringe Apple patents.
