U.S. regulators Federal Trade Commission is likely to impose a hefty US $ 22.5 million penalty on Google for bypassing the privacy settings of millions of Apple Safari web browsers users in order to serve targeted ads. Google was allegedly using a special code to bypass the settings and install cookies on users’ computers even when such actions were supposed to be blocked by the browser.

Amazon has announced ‘Kindle for the Web’ beta, which allows book samples and snippets to be read directly from a web browser without any Kindle software.

IE 9
Microsoft’s is all geared up to release Internet Explorer 9, the new version of Internet Explorer browser to all and sundry today. IE9 Beta is reported to be a beta that’s technically complete, so we shouldn’t have much to fear when the download is available later today. We are waiting to see how it will stand up to Firefox 4.0 which is also in beta.

After releasing new hardware yesterday Apple has today debuted Safari 5.0.1 which addresses a number of issues with the initial release, including the problem with black backgrounds appearing when generating mail attachments with scripts, and the potential security vulnerability with autofill. Google’s annual developer conference which started on Wednesday at Moscone West, San Francisco bought news of an all new web apps store for its Chrome web browser. The Chrome Web Store is slated to debut later this year.

Opera has announced that it is set to release the first edition of Opera 10, codenamed Peregrine, the browser is alleged to offer an assortment of new features, including compression technology that is said to be 40% faster than it’s predecessor (Opera 9.6).
